PRIMARY MUSIC

Music fosters creativity and builds confidence, helping learners express themselves and understand the importance of communication as they connect with other musicians and audiences.

What Will Students Learn?

Learners will engage with music as performers, composers, and informed listeners. They will create, understand, and appreciate music from various cultures, historical periods, and places, enhancing their leadership, collaboration skills, and self-confidence.

Primary Music learners will:

  • Develop a love for music through engaging and enjoyable activities.
  • Acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to contribute as musicians.
  • Collaborate with others in meaningful and expressive ways through singing and playing instruments.
  • Foster their individual and collective creativity.
  • Use their expanding knowledge to explore and create music that is unique, relevant, and valuable.

Students will develop creative skills that will benefit many aspects of their future learning and development. This course supports their progression to Lower Secondary Music.

How Is the Programme Taught?

Primary Music offers flexibility, allowing learners to perform through singing and playing various musical instruments, including found objects and music technology. We encourage learners to experience music from their own culture and to explore music from different times and places.

The programme is intended to complement, not replace, instrumental or singing lessons.
